St. Cloud Florida charities presented by Jeanine Corcoran broker for The Corcoran Connection. She is joined by her co-host Kristin Macari owner of Studio Nine 13. Welcome to the 6th episode of Discover St. Cloud Florida.

Jeanine started by saying that there are many worthy charities in Saint Cloud, but she wanted to cover the ones that were on the top of her list. A Hero For Kids is her first charity and it is a great one. They are always looking for gently used children’s books, school supplies, backpacks, etc.

They are focusing on Christmas right now and having people bring in gifts for children so no one child goes without this holiday. A Hero For Kids staff dress up as Superman, Batman, a police officer, a firefighter, etc. to make the kids happy. They go all out and for such a worthy cause.

John Kalish is the CEO for A Hero For Kids and Jeanine recently spoke with him. She asked john how they get the names for the kids as she was curious. He replied that he gets a lot of the names of the families from the school counselors. He also added that families can apply as well and they can email him at [email protected]. Jeanine said that they do such an amazing job for the children and her business supports A Hero For Kids as well as many businesses in Saint Cloud.

The next St. Cloud Florida charity Jeanine would like to mention is A Place For Grace which is located at 1209 Florida Ave. This charity has a special place in Jeanine’s heart because when her children were growing up, her whole family would volunteer their time.

They would serve dinner at A Place For Grace. Jeanine mentioned that her Church would serve dinner there as well. They do have a store and they do accept donated items. A Place For Grace has volunteers running the store.

There is a prayer room in their store, and it is painted with chalk on the walls. People can write their prayer requests on the wall. The other side of the store has a dining area and that’s where they serve meals to the homeless. Whether it is Jeanine or her Church serving the meals, they bring the food to A Place Of Grace.

They take donations at the back door. They are open on the following days for donations:

Tuesday from 10-4 PM
Wednesday from 10-4 PM
Thursday – donations are closed.
Friday – from 10-6 PM

The next charity that Jeanine wanted to mention is Central Florida Hero Car. This is a new one and is like the model of A Hero For Kids. It’s all about veterans. How it works is, a hero gets nominated and then they get picked up in a “hero car” and taken out to lunch. They also receive a $400 goody basket.

Business owners in the area can pick a month and they get to sponsor the hero chosen that month. They focus on veterans and this past month the hero was Don Smith. He was in the Navy.

The last charity Jeanine wanted to share is The Transition House. It has a variety of programs with many success stories from people being homeless, work release programs, and so many wonderful stories of helping people transition to a normal life. You can visit their website online.

Kristin mentioned the Osceola County Council on Aging. They do the “meals on wheels” every week. There are so many great charitable organizations in and around Saint Cloud, FL.
