In this episode, Mr. B. steps aside and hands over the classroom to Plus Pluswell and Bob as they take the children and their special guest contestants through a fun game show that teaches addition strategies!
Children often learn math concepts best by manipulating them in the real world with hands-on objects. So while we show the children visual representations of adding with: a number line, 10s frame, and counters, please have the children using these things along with us at home or school!
In the beginner Kindergarten classroom, start with practice on single-digit adding which to us is seen as simple math. But remember this is a brand new concept, so be patient and really break things down to their base skills (e.g. matching a numeral to an amount of objects). As the child moves through elementary school to grade 2, 3rd grade, etc. this will lay the foundation for future math concepts to come: addition with carrying, subtraction, multiplication, division, etc. Once these foundations are laid, the world of math with open to your student(s)! They will be able to enjoy the skills they've learned and use them in a math project: creating a table, making their own pictorial lesson, a 20 board game, even designing something with beautiful color for Pinterest! We aim to make our videos fun enough even for an educational summer, so your child with be a math pro for math grade 3. We hope to foster a love for kids math!
Our goal at Mr. B's Brain is to use YouTube as an enrichment for school. We aim to help each student with animated learning opportunities. We have gotten feedback that our lessons are effective for the toddler all the way to the adult - as it helps moms and dads learn how to teach their students in better ways. We've done a patient search of video Youtube content, surveyed teachers, looked at what was effective in the classroom, analyzed lesson plans, and then came to create what you see before you. We are proud of our free high resolution short videos that are a great tool to join with a traditional education. You have our permission to use them in your home, preschool, kindergarten class, first grade classroom, or anywhere else you'd like to. Thanks for your support, enjoy!
