We show you how to turn an excavated hillside into a stable, long-lasting parking area using simple materials and a bit of hard work.
Building a retaining wall does not always require a massive concrete foundation. I explain how we use bedding gravel to level the ground and provide a solid base for our one-meter wide baskets. You will see the step-by-step assembly of the wire grids, including a specific tip on using cable ties to make threading the spiral connectors much easier. We also cover the importance of choosing different mesh sizes for the front and back to keep smaller stones from falling out while maintaining a clean, professional look.
One of the most labor-intensive parts of the project is filling the baskets. We hand-stack six tons of granite stones to create a beautiful finish, treating it almost like a giant game of Tetris. To prevent soil from washing through the wall over time, I also demonstrate how to install landscape fabric effectively along the back.
