Join me as I take on a complete restoration project to transform a rotting wooden foundation into a durable, long-lasting outdoor space. In this video, we dive deep into the process of dismantling an old structure and rebuilding it with modern, high-quality materials that are built to last.
After ten years, my WPC boards are still in excellent condition, but the wooden supports underneath have seen better days. I walk you through the entire renovation journey, from identifying rot and insect damage to installing a brand-new substructure. We are upgrading the foundation using domestic Douglas fir beams and professional-grade aluminum profiles to ensure this terrace stays solid for decades to come.
One of the highlights of this project is the focus on sustainability and protection. I demonstrate how to pre-treat new wood with linseed oil firnis, a natural and organic way to seal against moisture, fungi, and moss. You will also see how I managed the technical side of the build, including setting a proper slope for rainwater drainage and using specialized metal connection clips for a seamless finish. The result is a terrace with significantly less vibration and a refreshed look that is ready for the next phase of our garden makeover.
