Homeschool Connections courses are great for supplementing your current homeschool curriculum, whether you use a home study school, unschool, or somewhere in between.

Homeschool Connections is designed to meet you where you are and give you the tools you need to successfully educate your children at home.

Let's explore using Homeschool Connections courses as supplemental material in the following scenarios:

Families enrolled in a home study school
Parents who design their own curriculum (eclectic)
Unschool families who follow a child-led education

1. Home Study Schools and HSC
Many families who are signed up with home study schools will use Homeschool Connections’ courses to supplement their program.

Just a few examples we’ve seen:
- A Seton student who needs extra help with math. Seton uses Saxon Math and we offer both live, interactive and recorded, independent-learning (with Instructor Access) Saxon Math courses.
- A Kolbe student who would like to enhance their literature studies. Dr. Henry Russell, who also created the Shakespeare Audio Series for Kolbe Academy, offers many literature courses that fit well into their curriculum.
- A Mother of Divine Grace student who would like to take a course not offered elsewhere such as Accounting or Spaceflight Science.
- A Queen of Heaven student who would like to improve his test prep and study skills. We offer courses such as ACT / SAT Test Prep and How to Be An Excellent Student.

If you would like your Homeschool Connections courses recorded on your home study school transcript, make sure to have courses approved by the home study school before registering.

2. Designing Your Own Eclectic Curriculum with Homeschool Connections:
Many parents prefer to put together their own curriculum using a variety of sources. Homeschool Connections is a good fit for these parents as we offer individual courses. It’s easy to add just one or two courses.

Some examples we’ve seen:
- A parent who is not strong in language who has her children take live, interactive Spanish or Latin course.
- A busy parent with many little children and a self-directed teen who enjoys taking recorded, independent-learning courses.
- A parent who would like to have a third party grade and comment on writing assignments.
- A family who lives in a state that requires at least one online course for graduation.
- A parent who wants her child to experience answering to a teacher, other than mom, before leaving for college.

The important thing is that parents have the freedom to pick and choose individual courses that work best for them. With the wide variety of courses, homeschoolers can easily fill holes in their curriculum or focus on a child’s special interest.

3. Unschooling Using Homeschool Connections
Homeschool Connections can be a great fit for homeschool families where the student is instrumental in the decision-making process alongside the parents.

We’ve had many unschooling families take advantage of both our live, interactive courses and our recorded, independent-learning courses (Unlimited Access) quite successfully.

Here at Homeschool Connections, we like to offer “out-of-the-box” courses. Those are the ones that tend to be attractive to the students themselves. A few examples include:
- Instead of just “creative writing” we have a fiction-writing series that gives students the tools needed to write their own book and get it published.
- When the presidential election took place, we offered a six-week “American Elections: Democracy in Action” course. The five weekly classes leading up to the election covered all of the course material. The final class took place after the election so students could discuss the outcome in light of what they learned.
- History courses such as “12 Inventions that Change the World” and “The Rise and Fall of the California Missions” are available for students who want more than the status quo courses.
- Government courses such as “Constitutional Law: Supreme Court Jurisprudence” and “First Amendment: Five Freedoms”, and “Pro-Life Boot Camp” take students deeper into the subject.
- Science courses such as “Spaceflight Science” and “Human Anatomy: Science in the Catholic Tradition” are as much fun as they are academically challenging.
- Theology such as “Making Sense About Mary”, “Peter and the Papacy”, and other hard-hitting apologetics courses give students the opportunity to practice their skills head-to-head with apologist Gary Michuta.
- For the entrepreneurially-minded student, “Fundamentals of Business” and “Business Law” are must-have courses.

These courses (and many others) encourage a love of learning in addition to building a knowledge base.

No matter where you are on the homeschooling spectrum, we want to help you be successful.
