Gabions for slope stabilization - preparation and planning at a glance

Gabions for slope stabilization - preparation and planning at a glance

In this video, I show you the initial situation of my property before I built a 30-metre-long and 2-metre-high gabion wall to secure the slope. Gabions are ideal as retaining walls due to their weight and stability and offer many other advantages.

I wanted to make the slope on my property steeper so that I could make better use of the area below. I opted for a gabion wall to permanently secure the earth slope. The stone baskets are a tried and tested method and I trust their stability in this project too.

I hired a mini excavator for the preparations, but due to rain the ground was very soggy, which made the excavation work a challenge.

Project overview:
I am securing the slope with gabions over a length of almost 30 meters. These stone baskets have already been used successfully in various places on my property. A staircase is integrated in the middle of the gabion wall and water, drainage and wastewater pipes are laid. I also use filter fleece to prevent contamination. The baskets are then filled with stones by hand.
