Backfilling the gabion wall and straightening the slope - How I secured my slope

In this video, I show you how I backfill the 15-metre-long gabion wall on my slope and level the slope. Above the slope stabilization, the gradient is flattened and a transition to the stone baskets is created. I plan to create a raised bed on the slope later.

After a good two months, I have filled all the stone baskets with stones. Now I'm starting to fill the area behind the stone baskets with soil. I'm using the excavated soil from last year for this. As the slope above the gabion wall is still too steep, it needs to be flattened.

I cut off the turf with a spade and break up the clods of earth. Once everything is smooth, I apply mulch to prevent weeds from growing on the slope. As soon as the soil has sunk, I can start planting.

In this project, an existing gabion wall will be extended to secure a 2-meter high and 30-meter long earth slope in the garden. A staircase will also be installed in the middle. Water pipes, empty pipes and drainage pipes also need to be installed, and a filter fleece will be fitted to prevent contamination. Finally, the baskets will be filled with stones by hand.

The project started in fall 2019. You can find more videos about this project in my playlist:
