Here is another way to make insect repellent using the American Beautyberry plant.
Collect enough leaves to fill the bottom of a large pot. Tear the leaves and place them in the pot. Place a small bowl in the center of the pot while moving all of the leaves from beneath it and filling the sides. Add about 1 1/2 cups of water and cover with an inverted round lid. The idea is to have the leaves steam and collect on the lid then drip and collect in the bowl. Simmer for several hours.
Remove the bowl and pour the contents into a spray bottle and add a bit of alcohol to help with evaporation. You can also add essential oils of your choice for a pleasing aroma.
