In this video, I'm sharing a brilliant workshop hack! We're making a universal and precise circular saw guide practically from junk—leftover laminate flooring. This DIY project will cost you pennies but rivals the functionality of brand-name guides!
Hello everyone, and welcome back to the workshop! Today's project will change how you use your circular saw. Forget complicated and expensive store-bought guides. All you need is a piece of laminate and a couple of scrap wood blocks.
What we're building in this video:
➤ The Base: We take a piece of laminate. Using a router, we make a longitudinal slot 8 mm wide. The trick is that it's not centered! On one side, we offset it by 40 mm, and on the other side by 200 mm. This is the key to the guide's versatility!
➤ The Fixed Fence: On one edge of the base, we securely screw a wooden block sized 20x50x300 mm at a perfect 90-degree angle. This is our fixed fence, which ensures a perfectly straight cut.
➤ The Movable Clamp: We take an identical block (20x50x300 mm), drill a hole through its center, and install a threaded furniture insert. This block is placed on the opposite side of the base.
➤ The Locking Mechanism: The movable fence is secured using a thumb nut. This simple system allows you to INSTANTLY clamp workpieces of DIFFERENT LENGTHS! From small pieces to full-sized sheets.
