This tool is essentially a chalk line alternative and instead of serving you a video on how to use a chalk line, this video gives an overview of essential Japanese tools, specifically the setup and use of the sumitsubo, along with a brief look at the sumisashi (the bamboo marking brush). This is Japanese carpentry for beginners, starting with woodworking tools, how to make said woodworking tools, and how to use woodworking tools. The sumitsubo and sumisashi are ultimately beginner carpentry tools and some of the most basic carpentry tools in the Japanese toolbox, focusing on layout and definitive marking to produce high quality tools with precision.
