Setting up a traditional tool used for marking. The Sumitsubo stores the ink used by the Sumisashi (brush made from bamboo) and has a line for flicking straight lines.

The ink used is similar to calligraphy ink but does not dry as quick. Marking with ink allows for more permanent markings.

The Sumi Tsubo is usually made from Keyaki (Zelkova).
